Meeting with Shanghai Think-tanks to Discuss the Impact of US-China Trade Frictions on European Business

2018-04-23 | Shanghai

During this meeting, Mr. Jens Ewert, Chair of the Investment Working Group and Mr. Frank Zhu, representative of the Intellectual Property Rights Working Group exchanged views on local business environment, US-China trade frictions, the Shanghai IP Court and China International Import Expo with scholars from Shanghai Academy of Development and Reform, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Shanghai Institute of American Studies. While recent trade frictions between China and the US may not have an immediate impact on European business in China, the Chamber members call for reciprocity in bilateral trade and investment relations with China and believes a level playing field should be create for domestic and foreign businesses to compete equally. Regarding the upcoming Import Expo, the Chamber believes it is a good platform for Shanghai to pilot some measures with regard to customs clearance, licensing, inspection and quarantine etc. Such pilot measure can be extended nationwide if it proves to be effective.
