Meeting with Vice Mayor of Chengdu

On 8th March, the European Chamber met with Vice Mayor Qingbao Niu of Chengdu Municipal Government, as well as representatives from the Investment Promotion Committee and relevant departments, all in Beijing for the ‘Two Sessions’ European Chamber Vice President Massimo Bagnasco and Secretary General Adam Dunnett received them in the Beijing office, along with member companies representing automotive, quality and safety services, environment, pharmaceutical and healthcare equipment working groups.

Vice Mayor Qingbao Niu gave a speech on Chengdu’s economic development and shared his outlook on Chengdu’s future development – which aims to build a more international and legal business environment and a fair and level playing field. He also pointed out that Chengdu, as an important hub for connecting with western China and Europe, was positioning itself as a centre of culture and innovation, tourism and sports industries. Vice President Massimo Bagnasco appreciated Vice Mayor Niu’s inspiring speech and introduced the European Chamber and its Southwest chapter. 

At the meeting, WG representatives made fruitful exchanges with Chengdu Municipal Government and topics like how to provide more tailor-made policies to SMEs in Chengdu, favoured policy changes in Catalogue of Industrial Investment in Central and Western China, potential pilot policies in Chengdu Free Trade Zone and how to facilitate FIE’s current and future investment in Chengdu, were discussed at the meeting. In the end,  Vice President Massimo Bagnasco officially presented Chamber’s latest Position Paper to the Vice Mayor.
