Meeting with SCOFCOM DDG Yang Chao on Key Findings of 2019 Business Confidence Survey

On 27th May, European Chamber Vice President (VP) and Shanghai Board Chair Carlo D’Andrea presented the findings of the European Business in China Business Confidence Survey 2019 to Yang Chao, Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce (SCOFCOM).

VP D’Andrea highlighted findings such as: decreased optimism in the Chinese business environment and businesses feeling unwelcome in China; increased cases of forced technology transfer; unequal treatment as compared to domestic businesses; regulatory ambiguity; and particular difficulties faced by SMEs. DDG Yang promised to carefully analyse the data in the report to formulate his policymaking and reassure foreign companies of equal treatment. He added that he would evaluate the issue of forced tech transfer, and create new opportunities for in-depth dialogue with SMEs. The Chamber and SCOFCOM agreed to find more avenues for cooperation to improve the local business environment for our members.
