European Chamber representatives meet with Commission Deputy Director-General Khalil Rouhana

On Monday, 30th November, a number of industry representatives of the European Chamber led by President Joerg Wuttke met with the Deputy Director-General (DDG) for DG CONNECT Mr Khalil Rouhana to provide a briefing ahead of the upcoming EU-China ICT Policy Dialogue.

President Wuttke provided a general overview of the key issues encountered by European businesses in China, and industry representatives went on do discuss specific issues affecting European ICT companies in China. In particular, for key topics were raised: participation in China's 5G rollout and other industry plans, and other issues related to achieving a level-playing field for EU industry; access to Value-added Telecom Services (VATS) licenses, and opening up for telecoms, cloud, and other areas; issues with cross-border data regulation; issues with access to certain key Chinese standardisation bodies; spectrum regulation and ITU WRC-23 coordination between China and the EU.

DDG Rouhana thanked European Chamber representatives for their input and stated that the Commission will continue to raise some of these issues in interactions with their Chinese counterparts.
