Online Meeting with SAMR and CNIPA on Intellectual Property Issues

On Monday, 21st December, European Chamber IPR working group chairs Mr Filippo Sticconi, Mr Reinout van Malenstein, and Mr Yajun Bai met with the delegation of officials from the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) led by Mr Zhou Yong, Division Chief, Office for Combating Intellectual Property Rights Infringement and Manufacturing and Selling Counterfeit and Shoddy Commodities, SAMR, to discuss IP concerns share by member companies. Together online are representatives from the EU Delegation Trade Office Ms Helene Juramy and Ms Liu Qi. 

The IPR working group chairs thanked Mr Zhou for the opportunity to meet online, and brought forward relevant IP issues regarding difficulties in legalizing documents abroad during COVID, and unequal enforcement across different regions and levels of government in China. Mr Sticconi also introduced the Chamber's annual Position Paper, and brought forward issues and suggestions in the IPR Position Paper. Mr Zhou and his colleagues from CNIPA replied to the Chamber's concern and said that they will continue to provide cross-regional trainings for their staff to ensure equal enforcement. He was grateful for the opportunity to discuss online and he is willing to follow up on more IP issues in the Position Paper that was not discussed due to time constraints.
