Building an Agile Organisation

On 3rd March, the European Chamber was delighted to welcome Carla Arellano, Vice President and Global Client Leader of Organization Solutions at McKinsey & Co, to share their model on organisational health with our members.

Ms Arellano outlined how companies that score high on their Organizational Health Index share the characteristic of agility – that is, organisations who can “adapt rapidly and flexibly to market, environmental or internal changes in a cost-effective way”.  The strong underlying thesis of her presentation was that dynamism is not restricted to companies that are smaller and just starting up; by following key building blocks, MNC’s can also operate with both speed and control.

Attendees, who were primarily HR VP’s and General Managers, were asked to think about the definitive characteristics of their organisations and were challenged to consider how they could become more agile and thus rank higher on McKinsey’s index. The following day Ms Arellano shared her research with our Human Resources Working Group in Shanghai in a similarly engaging forum with HR professionals.
