Dialogue held for EU enterprises and Nanjing Government

2021 European Chamber Business Dialogue with Nanjing Government was held in Nanjing on 9th March 2021 Tuesday in order to enhance communication between Nanjing government and EU enterprises. 

The dialogue was held by the European Chamber Nanjing Chapter and Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, with multiple bureaus and over 120 representatives from 70 EU companies participating. 

Ding Aimin, Director General of Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, introduced the business environment of Nanjing and spoke highly of the development of  EU companies, which are important parts of Nanjing's foreign investment. 

Mr. Adam Dunnet, Secretary-General of EU Chamber of Commerce in China, delivered a speech about the impact of CAI (The China-EU Comprehensive Agreement on Investment) on business between Europe and China.

As the development of Integration of Yangtze River Delta and approval of "Nanjing Metropolitan Area Development Plan", new opportunities are expected for enterprises in Nanjing. 

Bernhard Weber, Chair of European Chamber Nanjing Chapter, called for more attention for small and medium-sized companies which may bring more energy to Nanjing market.

At the panel discussion, enterprise and government representatives divided into three groups were focusing on specific topics like foreign investment policies, talent attraction policies and entry-exit policies in the post-pandemic era. 

Frank Meyer, Senior Vice President of Bosch Automotive Aftermarket (China) Co., Ltd., said that the dialogue provided a platform through which he could convey his concerns directly to the government and communicate with other companies. 

As a representative of small and medium-sized enterprise, Martin Kroboth, General Manager of ARGO-HYTOS Fluid Power Systems (Yangzhou) Co., Ltd., believes that the small companies could be the hidden champions in many areas and he was optimistic to the prospects of his company.

It is reported that Nanjing’s actual use of foreign capital in 2020 was 4.52 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year increase of 10.1%, and the proportion in the whole country and the province increased by 0.1% and 0.2% respectively. EU companies are important parts of Nanjing's foreign investment. In 2020, the EU established 46 new projects in Nanjing, with contractual foreign investment of US$1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 400%.
