PCR Kick-off Meeting: Presentation, Working Group Elections and 2020/2021 Position Paper Discussion

Dear Working Group member,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the 2020 Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Refining Working Group Kick-off Meeting on Monday 2 March, 4-6pm. The meeting will be held online via Zoom. Please register with Rachel Rapaport (rrapaport@europeanchamber.com.cn) to receive meeting details.
Mr Jan Kreibaum, China advisor at the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), will present “2050 Vision for the Chemical Industry by the European Chemical Industry Council - Model for China?” Cefic recently published its Mid-Century Vision for the Chemical Industry in Europe, outlining eight points that will secure the European Chemical Industry’s competitive future within the global chemical landscape. This vision has been highly acclaimed by the Chinese chemical industry for its high relevance and guidance for its own future. The presentation will be followed by a discussion on applicability for China.
During this meeting we will hold our 2020-2021 chair elections. The Chair and Vice Chair play a crucial role in driving the Working Group, which includes a leadership role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to Chinese and European government authorities, and steering Working Group meetings.
If you are interested in the positions of Chair or Vice Chair, please read the attached Starter Kit for Chairs and submit the following information to me before Monday 24 February, 9am:

- Motivation letter on why you wish to be elected Chair or Vice Chair, including:

- how your background and experience match the role
- the goals you have for the PCR working group over the following 12 months
- how you intend to utilise or share professional resources for the benefit of the Working Group
You may check your eligibility to run by contacting rrapaport@europeanchamber.com.cn. The duration of the term for both Chairs and Vice Chairs is one year. All elected Chairpersons must sign the Code of Conduct in the attached Starter Kit following the election.
Each member company present during the election will be entitled to one vote, after each candidate has given a short speech on why they would like to run for election. Any member that wishes to vote must register their attendance at least 24 hours before the meeting.
We will also discuss the 2020/2021 Position Paper during this meeting. Please see last year’s position paper here. The PP is the Chamber’s main lobby tool, and it is therefore important that the PCR group has a strong set of recommendations to share with all stakeholders. Please consider any new recommendations that you would like to include in this year’s paper and send them to rrapaport@europeanchamber.com.cn by Monday 24 February, 9am.

Mr Jan Kreibaum has more than 30 years of experience in the chemical industry. In addition to being the China advisor at the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic), he is senior advisor for Chemical Practice at Roland Berger, senior advisor and Industrial Advisory Committee member at FountainVest Advisors Ltd, and senior advisor of “The Going Global Confederation” of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF). He was previously chair of the European Chamber’s Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Refining working group. In the past he held positions at DuPont, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, BASF, and most recently as Regional President Greater China/Korea for Clariant Chemicals. He has a Masters of Engineering from McGill University.
