Worldwide, the transportation sector has been undergoing incredible changes in recent years, especially with the advent of digitalisation, the increasing role played by technology in facilitating faster, safer and more efficient transportation and the impact of environmental and health concerns. The impact of COVID-19 added to the wide array of changes felt in this sector and the shockwaves will result in short-term and long-term effects in supply chains and thus in trade, the backbone of global transportation
Looking ahead, strong innovation strategies, and government regulations need to be revisited for long-term security.
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is pleased to invite experts of the transportation industry to offer insights, trend analysis and predictions for the evolution of the sector, we welcome Jens Eskelund, Managing Director, Maersk China, Mats Harborn, President, Scania China Group, and Joel Sutherland, Managing Director Supply Chain Management Institute, Professor of Practice, University of San Diego School of Business. Should you fail to cancel your participation on time, the European Chamber reserves the right to transfer future event/webinar registrations to other interested participants. In the case of fee-based events, the event fee will be charged to those who fail to cancel their registration on time.
Advisory Council Policy
Members of the Advisory Council may receive complimentary admission to Chamber seminars, conferences and factory visits up to two attendees per event. Additional participants will be charged at the member rate.
Advisory Council members will still be charged the standard member rate for participation in training courses and special events, such as gala balls, government appreciation dinners, or admission to corporate social events/tournaments.

Ms. Jing Wu
Jing Wu is currently the Public Affairs VP of UPS China District, with responsibility of leading district Public Affairs team to support business growth and transformation through policy advocacy and risk management. Before UPS, Jing Wu was the Director of PR and Communication of ConocoPhillips China since 2017, in that role, she was responsible for restoring corporate reputation in China through holistic PR and Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
Jing Wu holds the MBA degree from Manchester Business School.
Mr. Jens Eskelund
Mr. Jens Eskelund
Jens Eskelund was born in 1970 in Aarhus, Denmark. He holds an MA in philosophy and has studied at University of Aarhus and University of Texas at Austin. He has also pursued studies in Chinese at Renmin University in Beijing. Coming to Beijing as a student in 1998, Jens Eskelund began his career in China as Commercial Officer at the Danish Embassy to China before taking on a position in marketing for Maersk Line in Beijing in 2000. He has since held positions as General Manager for Public Affairs for Maersk Line in China and later Director of Public Affairs for North Asia before assuming his present role as Chief Representative for Maersk in the Greater China Area and North-East Asia. Primary focus areas comprise engaging government entities, institutions and trade associations on matters of policy, regulatory environment and business development on behalf of the companies within the Maersk Group.
Jens Eskelund is a former Chairman of the Danish Chamber of Commerce in China as well as the Vice President and Chair of Maritime Working Group of the European Chamber. Jens was elected as the President of European Chamber in May 2023.
Jens Eskelund is married and has two sons.
Mr. Mats Harborn
Mr. Mats Harborn
Mr Mats Harborn is President of Scania China.
From May 2017 to May 2019 Mats Harborn was the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. He had served on the Chamber's Executive Committee since 2013, as Vice President and as States' Representative.
Mr. Harborn has been actively involved in Sino-European trade and business relations. In 2005, he was appointed as the Chairman of Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China, a position he held for 8 years. He has been the Chairman China Commercial Vehicles Board of ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association) since 2010.
Mr. Harborn has a proven record of successful introductions of products and companies into China over years. He is now the Executive Director of Scania China Strategic Office, responsible for setting strategies and paving the way for high end CV sales. He joined the company as the Managing Director of Scania China Representative office as well as Scania Sales (China) Co., Ltd in 2004 and held that position until 2010. From 1997 to 2000, he had been working for Swedish Embassy in Beijing as Commerical Councelor, a key position in Sino-Swedish commercial relations. In June 2000, he became the Marketing and Information Director of Ecolean AB, helping establish Ecolean as a credible business partner in juice and dairy industry and define it as a sustainable packaging solutions provider.
Mr. Harborn received a bachelor degree from Lund University on Oriental Studies and Business Admin (1984), and a training course from The Institute of Leadership (IFL) (2008).
As a multilingual user, Mr. Harborn has a wide ranging knowledge of Chinese culture and society beyond his business and rich expertise in cross-cultural management.
Mr. Joel Sutherland
Mr. Joel Sutherland
Joel has over forty years’ experience as a supply chain professional holding executive-level positions for many well-known companies. Joel was the first American vice president for Denso – a Toyota Group company and the second largest automotive parts supplier in the world. Joel also held executive-level positions at International Paper; ConAgra Foods; Formica; AmerisourceBergen, and CSX Rail and Sealand Services. In the late 1990s, Joel joined JB Hunt Transport where he was a founding member of Transplace, today one of North America’s largest transportation management and technology providers. Wrapping up his industry career, Joel was President of Air-Road Logistics, providing time-definite transportation services between the U.S. and Mexico. Joel also continues to serve as President of Envoy, Inc., a consulting and management advisory services firm he founded in 1994.
Joel earned an MBA from Pepperdine University and a BS degree in logistics management from the University of Southern California, where he also served as an adjunct professor. Since 2006, Joel has been in academia full time, first at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where he served as Managing Director for the Center for Value Chain Research; and since 2011 at the University of San Diego, where he serves as Managing Director for the Supply Chain Management Institute and is a Professor of Practice in supply chain management.
Joel is a past Board Chair of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and in 2009 received their highest honor – the Distinguished Service Award – an award given to only one professional each year based on a career dedicated to the profession. In 2002, Joel led the effort to provide a comprehensive definition of supply chain management, an effort that enabled the Council of Logistics Management (CLM) to change its name to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) in 2004. Joel also received the Professional Achievement Award from Logistics Management magazine; was recognized as one of the Top 20 Logistics Executives by CLO magazine and the Logistics & Supply Chain Forum; was honored as a Thought Leader by Supply Chain Quarterly and DC Velocity magazines; is an inaugural member of CSCMP’s Circle of Excellence; and is in the CSCMP Hall of Fame.
