European Chamber Launches its Corporate Social Responsibility Business Guide: 
Business for People or People for Business?
Creating a Harmonious and Sustainable Society


Beijing, 20th October 2006. The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, the leading exponent of European business interests in China and the Voice of European Business in China, has today launched its first business guide on corporate social responsibility Business for People or People for Business? Creating a Harmonious and Sustainable Society in the Kerry Centre Hotel.

The European Chamber and its CSR Working Group present this publication on best practices focused on the efforts of European companies in China. This bilingual guide on CSR is set in a Chinese context and has as its underlying purpose to share with all companies in China, ideas and benchmarks on how European companies are integrating CSR into their business strategies.

Ten case studies, from a variety of industries, demonstrate how Corporate Social Responsibility is an essential part of corporate integrity, branding, and reputation building, which is ultimately targeted at winning the trust of stakeholders. This is the basis for creating competitive advantage and sustainable business models, and also an effective contribution to creating a harmonious society.

Company Case studies include: Adidas, Arcelor Mittal, AstraZeneca, BASF, Bayer, DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Bank, Nokia, Novozymes and PSA Peugeot Citroen.
