Asia-Invest Forum 2006 Organised by European Union Chamber of Commerce in China Opens in Chengdu on 6th Nov.

Chengdu, 5th Nov. 2006, Asia-Invest Forum 2006 organised by European Union Chamber of Commerce in China will open at the Crowne Plaza in Chengdu on 6th November.

The European Commission’s annual initiative creates a forum for Asian and European private sector representative organisations to meet and find partners for projects that are designed to promote and facilitate economic cooperation between Asia and Europe. This 5th occasion of the Asia-Invest Forum is also the second time that the forum has been held in China, the first being in Beijing in 2002.

The Asia-Invest forums have initiated over 250 different projects, including SME networking seminars, CSR public-private partnerships, capacity-building for Asian SME’s, IPR discussion boards and diverse study projects that aim to promote and strengthen the trade and investment flow between Asia and Europe.

More than 100 participants from 35 countries will attend this year’s forum. They are from 15 Asian countries and 20 European countries. Delegates will discuss the initiation and sustainability of cooperation projects, regional and sub-regional cooperation, the role of European Union in Asia, tools to support Europe-Asia business cooperation, etc. The forum basically consists of four working groups and will be concluded with a statement from each of them. The participants will have sufficient networking opportunities at the meetings, luncheons and dinners. Four information stands organised by the European Commission and World Bank Group will help answer questions about the Asia-Invest programme, the European Commission, export and SME issues.

The organiser of this year’s forum, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, has been chosen because of its unique roll as a conduit between business, NGOs and government. With seven offices and over a thousand members throughout China, the European Union Chamber of Commerce receives a lot of support, in particular in Chengdu from the local and regional government.
