Statement on US Tariffs Announced on 2nd April

In recent years, the majority of European Chamber member companies have been regularly reviewing their supply chains to identify vulnerabilities in the face of growing geopolitical and trade tensions. Adjustments that have been made as a result vary based on specific company circumstances, ranging from diversification in order to eliminate reliance on single sources, to siloing in order to establish fully localised production in China.

For many companies, supply chain adjustments have been made specifically to address potential challenges regarding the movement of goods or components between the US and China, with both previous tariffs and some consumer demands compelling companies to find alternative sources. It is therefore likely that the latest round of tariffs will impact certain elements in some of our members’ supply chains, while raising a great deal of uncertainty for many others. Any subsequent restructuring of supply chains will not be possible overnight so it will take some time to understand the full impact that these tariffs will have.
