Dear Members,

Please mark your calendars for the Environment Working Groups’ 2021 Kick-off elections Thursday, 25th March 10:00 to 12:00 (GMT+8:00, China time) at the European Chamber’s Shanghai and Beijing offices, as well as online via Zoom. We will hold the 2021/2022 chair elections and discuss the 2021/2022 Environment Position Paper.

Candidates running for the elections will introduce themselves and their goals for the Environment Working Group over the next 12 months. Only Environment WG members who have their registration confirmed for this meeting will have the right to vote in person or online, with one vote per company. Online voting instructions will be sent via email to individual attendees prior to the meeting.

• 10:10-10:40 Presentation by Mr Wenxue Feng, Director of Solid Waste Department, Ministry of Ecology and Environment on the progress of Waste-Free Cities (with simultaneous translation)
• 10:40-11:00 Sharing by Paulo Lopes, Director Strategic Projects, BSI on COP26 and sustainability standards
• 11:10-11:30 Chair election
• 11:30-12:00 Position Paper discussion

Paulo has more than 15 years of work experience in strategy, sustainable development, carbon neutrality,
innovation and certification across five continents.

Paulo Lopes is the Director of Strategic Partnerships Greater China at BSI and responsible to develop and
execute strategies to expand collaboration with key accounts, multinational companies, government
entities and associations across Greater China.

He has been working in sustainable development since 2007 and has experience across 5 continents: Asia,
Africa, the Americas, and Europe. He worked as a Senior Sustainability Consultant to support the
development of industrial facilities in Saudi Arabia. Previously, Paulo worked in the non-profit sector
where he managed the development of carbon offsetting projects throughout Asia using renewable
energy and energy efficiency technologies. Paulo's experience has also built up from his private sector
background as a carbon management consultant, where he assisted large multinational companies in
Europe, the US, and Central Asia to measure and reduce carbon emissions and become more sustainable.
Paulo holds a MBA from Tsinghua-MIT Sloan as well as MSc Environmental Technology, Imperial College
London.
