European Chamber at International Customs Conference

"International Customs Conference", initiated by the European Commission, is part of the EU's extensive participation in the Shanghai World Expo and an event that European Chamber members have had the opportunity to attend. Mr. Algirdas ŠEMETA, EU Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti Fraud, and PRC Vice-Commissioner of General Administration of Customs, Mr Sun Yibiao, opened the event.

With the principal aim of this two-day event to display the importance of building bridges to facilitate legitimate trade while protecting citizens between EU and China, prominent business leaders and an array of academics came together to exchange their insights on EU-China Modern Customs. European Chamber Advisory Council Member Maersk’s Group Senior Vice President was among those invited to speak to this gathering of esteemed business leaders and scholars.

Following the European Union's "EU-China Modern Customs", EU Trade Commissioner ŠEMETA hosted an exclusive briefing session followed by cocktail with representatives of 8 of the EUCCC's relevant Working Groups’ representatives on the evening of 2nd September in Shanghai. The Commissioner was briefed on pertinent issues such as transfer pricing, customs IPR enforcement, Customs regulations on Express Delivery services and so on. Discussions covered various industry sectors and Commissioner ŠEMETA  and his team took note of the concerns voiced by each industry. He will raise these issues in future meetings with his Chinese counterparts.

European Chamber Vice-President and Shanghai Board Chair Mr Piter de Jong presented to Commissioner ŠEMETA  the European Chamber's Position Paper 2010/20111 that  was just launched in Beijing in the morning of the same day.
