EU-China Smart Cities Cooperation Workshop held in Beijing

On 22nd May, the Information Communication Technology working group organised the EU-China Smart Cities Cooperation Workshop in the European Chamber Beijing office.

Four distinguished European and Chinese speakers joined the workshop and shared their views and project updates with 31 working group attendees from energy, construction, auto, rail and ICT industry.

Mr. Frank Greco, First Counsellor, Head of Information, Security and Media Section, Delegation of European Union, gave a speech on the outline of the EU-China Smart Cities Cooperation Project. He pointed out that this framework provided practical solutions to many issues raised by the fast-growing urbanization practices in China, as many local cities are looking for development solutions for their regional health, water, energy and transportation dilemmas.

The well-established information infrastructure in both China and EU provides excellent cooperative opportunities between China and EU smart cities, and China has the unique capacity for industrializing EU invented new technologies.

Dr. Thomas Hart, the senior consultant from PDSF (EU-China Policy Dialogues Support Facility II) and Ms. Jacqueline Kang, Division director of Institute of Policy and economy of CATR, MIIT gave presentations regarding the project framework analysis and implementations on EU-China Smart Cities Cooperation Project. Mr. Chris Brown, Programme Manager at PDSF hosted the Q&A section. The project discussion will be followed by the 1st OpenChina-ICT Workshop on Smart and Sustainable Cities, co-organized by MIIT and PDSF, which will be held on 31st May in Guangzhou.
