The European Chamber Welcomes the Publication of China's Health-care Reform Guidelines
European Chamber, 8th April 2009

On 6th April the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council jointly endorsed and issued the Guidelines on Deepening the Reform of Health-care System after about three years of intense debate and repeated revision.

The European Chamber welcomes the new Guidelines, which aim to offer “safe, effective, convenient and affordable” healthcare services to for all 1.3 billion citizens by 2020, and calls for improved transparency in the implementation of the new Guidelines.

The European Chamber is encouraged to see that many of the Chamber’s comments submitted previously have been incorporated in the new Guidelines. Members of the Chamber’s Healthcare Equipment, Pharmaceutical and Insurance Working Groups would appreciate future dialogues with Chinese policy makers to address how the factors such as market competitiveness and technology innovation can help drive down the healthcare cost in the long run.
