Meeting with DDG Antti Peltomaki (SME)

·         DDG AP started the dialogue with the current economy status and a recent business case study in automotive industry. The discussion extended to latest policy and strategy on supporting SME internationalisation, in particular, further opening access to start-up to interact with internal market in Europe. DDG AP mentioned the new EU funding to support SMEs development. Strong support and attention will be seen continuously on cross-broader commerce, cosmetics, urbanisation, innovation, etc. DDG AP asked about current issues that SMEs are facing to in China, the different initiatives could be taken by European Commission.

·         Director CC asked about the priority of regional development on DDG side. DDG AP clarified that China will maintain the priority, especially ‘hot-potato’s, DDG will keep following up with One Belt One Road initiatives, EU-China Bilateral agreements, China reforms, etc.

·         Business Development Adviser RJ introduced the sectors development in China, he clarified that though the China economy growth is slowing down, some sectors are developing quickly, and e.g. service sector achieved 11% of growth in 2014-2015. RJ listed the challenges of EU SMEs in China: lack of financing support, risks on IPR, domestic competitors in China, etc. The positive feedbacks: most of the EU SMEs are looking for business partners in China or looking for Joint Ventures. Cosmetics, robots, education, F&B, Healthcare, Greentech, logistics service are looking very positive in China market. RJ enforced the importance for SMEs to follow the industry standards in China(compliance) 

·         Director CC and Legal Advisor LH introduced the networks, events that EU Centre is organising in China.

·         Senior Policy Manager XP introduced the implementation partners of EU SME Centre in China. Position Paper of European Union Chamber of Commerce, he listed the major challenges of SMEs in China: Market Access, Financing, HR.
