Meeting with State Secretary Mr. Lutz Stroppe of the German Federal Ministry of Health

In the framework of the government dialogue China-Germany a high-level delegation came on a three-day tour to China.

Unfortunately the CFDA had declined the request for a meeting and also the Vice-Minister of the Chinese HFPC cannceled the planned meeting on short notice. Nevertheless, Mr. Stroppe stated that the bilateral relationship China-Germany is developing well and both sides have much in common in the field of health care.

While regulatory issues are governed by the EU, medical reforms, hospital financing and health insurance are under the responsibility of the single member states.

The European Chamber reported the main concerns of the industry:
- new requirement that imported medical devices need to undergo clinical trial in China

- unequal treatment of European manufacturers, both in case of imported products and in case of products made in China by a foreign invested company.

Mr. Stoppe ensured that the German ministry of health and the German Embassy will address these issues in their dialogue with the Chinese government.
