Meeting with Zhang Zhikuan, Director General of BFDA, to discuss regulatory processes

A delegation of the European Chamber with more than 20 members visited the Beijing Food and Drug Administration (BFDA), they were received by Mr. Zhang Zhikuan, Director General and Party Secretary, and department directors.

Mr. Zhang summarized the work of the Beijing FDA, assuring that the BFDA is determined to increase the efficiency of the regulatory processes, and further improving the quality of service both to the public and the industry.

Ms. Zou, Deputy General Secretary of the China Food and Industry Quality and Safety Promotion Association gave an introduction of the Medical Engineering Translation Center. This center will serve as a trial base for new regulatory regulations before they are rolled-out nationwide, providing preferential conditions for R&D oriented pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

In a question and answer session, the European Chamber received first-hand information on the specific regulatory environment in Beijing.

Both parties agreed to continue the dialogue on a regular basis.

Mr. Sans Powell, Deputy Head of the Government Affairs Department of the European Chamber, presented the Chamber's Position Paper to Mr. Zhang.
