Ÿ   The EPSC has a great interest in China. The first product that that produced for the President of the Commission and his cabinet was a report on the AIIB.

Ÿ   The delegates were informed that the EPSC looks at the long term trends and developments and for this occasion the Deputy Director asked all the teams to be present during this meeting.

Ÿ   The EPSC has been dealing more on the economic dimension, but also G20 and G7 process. The Chinese presidency of the G20 will be very interesting in order to see our position.

Ÿ   JW presented the PP, updated on recent developments in China (RMB devaluation, stock exchange,…), OC study. Discussion on China’s self-defeating communication problems and how China is becoming more unpredictable.

Ÿ   Questions from EPSC members to the Chamber’s delegates focused on:

Ÿ   Should the EU continue to react to China with the same set of policy tools or should it find new ones (particularly due to the unpredictable nature of the current environment)? Should it use the same set of rules or come up with a tailor made set of rules? Does the Commission understand China?

Ÿ   The EPSC has been analysing the capital outflow from China. Where does the money go?

Ÿ   See current scenario, party congress 2017,…who is going to gain from the current situation?

Ÿ   Regional concerns

Ÿ   Chinese demography – situation labour market, competition on talent – will China export or import labour?

Ÿ   Workfare system disappearing and no welfare system to replace it, will this hold back consumption?
