Meeting with Deputy Director General Yue Xiuhu, NDRC

Some AC members in the service industry had a meeting with the Department of Planning of the NDRC. To start the meeting, DDG Yue welcomed the representatives from the European Chamber and AmCham. He told the participants that the Department of Planning is now studying the trend of service economy in China. Given the 13th Five-Year Plan has been adopted earlier this year, his department will work on more detailed plans to shift China’s industrial economy to a service economy. DDG Yue invited the participants to brief on the challenges in their business operation in China; their observations of the development of the service sector they are involved in the next 10 years; and their forward-looking recommendations about the development of the service industry in China. 

AC members of the European Chamber and some members of the AmCham briefed on their business operation in China, difficulties in their daily operation such as market access, license, local protectionism, lack of consistency and transparency in law formulation and implementation, much government behavior in the market, etc.  DDG Yue said that he and his colleagues have learnt a lot from the comments and suggestions made by the participants. He highlighted the importance of improving the governing capabilities of government authorities.  He said that since the 5th Plenum, the government has been trying to bring down the transaction cost which involves many areas. More effort is to be made to build a serving government and to let the market play a bigger role.  He thanked all the participants and look forward to more similar discussions in the future.
