Meeting with Director General Manservisi (DG DEVCO)

The general contents of the CM2025 paper were presented and DG DEVCO asked questions regarding how Chinese investment in Europe can be managed, how the EU can effectively respond to the growing role of Chinese government-backed investment in developing countries and the export of agricultural equipment in particular. DG DEVCO stated that while their development work in China is declining their interest in China has not changed due to its impact on other developing regions.

DG DEVCO asked questions regarding the future of the EU SME project as the end of scheduled funding approaches. AD presented ideas for an EU House in Beijing that would present strong branding for the EU and house multiple projects and partners. DG DEVCO responded favourably to the idea but highlighted the importance of senior support in order to identify where funding might come from.
