Meeting with Economic Counsellor of French Embassy

2017-05-03 | Beijing

Ms. Florence de Goldfiem, the chairman of Automotive Working Group met with Julien BONNET, the Economic Counsellor of French Embassy to discuss the New Energy Vehicles (NEV) quota issues on May 3rd. Florence acknowledged that the European chamber understands that the purpose of the Chinese government in setting the NEV quota is to assess the auto makers against the country's fuel consumption standards and to promote the development of “green vehicles”. She pointed out that the market should play a decisive role in driving the use of NEV. Therefore the Chinese government should separate industrial policy ambitions and environmental ambitions. Both sides agreed to continue monitoring this issue for now and leave room for potential cooperation in the future.
