Meeting with Managing Director of Multilateral Trading System Department of Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

Mr Takeshi Komoto, Managing Director of Multilateral Trading System Department, Trade Policy Bureau of Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (JMETI), led a delegation of six officials to the European Chamber, and exchanged views on the foreign investment environment in China, cyber security, intellectual property rights and environmental goods agreement (EGA).

Chamber's General Manager, Mr. Carl Hayward and Chamber's Director of Government Affairs (Chinese), Ms Zhang Ziting, expressed warm welcome to their visit, followed by breif introduction on the Chamber and presenting the key findings of 2017 Business Confidence Survey of the European Chamber and primary concerns raised in the initiative of China Manufacturing 2025. Overall, considering that the regulatory environment for foreign investment in China stays the same but with positive message from the top of Chinese government, the Chamber will continue to work together with the European business community for a better investment environment in China.

Mr Takeshi Komoto, on behalf of Japanese business community in China, expressed concerns regarding the fee level of royal payment, technical transfer restrictions, cross-boarder data transfer and protection on the personal information in China as well as the impact of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation. He further expressed gratitude to the Chamber's support for the upcoming symposium on EGA in Beijing and through this event, he would like to raise the awareness of relevant industries for future negotiations on EGA.

Mr. Carl Hayward, concluded this meeting by expressing the wish of continuing the communication regime between the Chamber and the business community of Japan.
