Meeting with the German Embassy on ETS

2017-10-20 | Beijing

The Carbon Market Working Group met the German Embassy to explain the EU industry's view about the imminent national ETS. Despite the initial excitement worldwide, the impact of the ETS in China will be limited. While the mechanism was initially supposed to cover six sectors, as of now, only the power sector will fall into the system. In addition, the Chinese government is facing difficulties in determining the allocation methods, particularly due to the existing differences among provinces in China. It is also important to notice, though, the China is still committed to comply with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. In this context, other initiatives such as green financing as expected to take shape.
