Working level meeting with Guangdong Intellectual Property Office

On November 29th the Guangdong Intellectual Property Office (GIPO) met with the European Chamber to introduce recent developments and initiatives focusing on IPR protection in the province.

During this meeting GIPO introduced the case of Patent Administrative Enforcement in Guangdong. According to GIPO, from January to October in 2017, the province’s intellectual property system investigated and dealt with total of 3 005 cases of patent infringement, including 1 800 cases of patent dispute and 1 205 cases of counterfeiting patents. Amongst these cases 2,550 cases were closed. The IPR protection at the Canton Fair is one of the bureau priority task. Currently, 6 national intellectual property legal assistance center have been established all over Guangdong Province.

From January to October 2017 the total number of accepted patent applications in Guangdong Province reached 495018, with a year-to-year increase of 33.54%. Among these applications, the number of accepted invention patent applications reached 138 900, with a year-to-year increase of 25.97%. 

During this meeting Guangdong Intellectual Property Office informed that the upcoming report of the Bureau is going to be released on April. The IPR WG of the European Chamber would meet the Bureau again after this report would be released to address question from European companies operating in Guangdong.

 

The meeting concluded with the hand-over of the European Business in China Position Paper 2017/2018 to Chen Xifan, Director, Law Enforcement & Supervision Division and Zhang Yuan Qin, Deputy Director, Law Enforcement and Supervision Department.
