EU-China IP Working Group - Industry Seminar on Online IP Protection and Enforcement

On 22nd April, the Industry Seminar on Online IP Protection and Enforcement as part of the 21st EU-China IP Working Group was held in Hangzhou. It is co-chaired by Ms Li Yongjie, Deputy Director General of the Treaty and Law Department, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and Mr Peter Kovacs, Head of Unit, the European Commission Directorate General for Trade (DG Trade). The seminar bring together representatives from the European and Chinese industry, as well as consulate of the Member States to share experiences, explore best cases, main challenges and future developments among government and industry actors.

The Chamber’s Local Chair of Intellectual Property Rights Working Group South China Chapter, Ms Alice Li, delivered a presentation during the seminar. She made introduction on the Intellectual Property Rights Working Group's focus and support first and gave an overview of the key challenges on online IP protection, such as counterfeiting, parallel imports, audio-visual copyright infringement, and domain name complaints. She then put forward specific policy recommendations from the industry perspectives and joined the wider discussion with the participants. 

Other industry representatives from the Intellectual Property Rights Working Group were invited to attend and provide their inputs.
