President Mats Harborn Spoke at The 5th Meeting of China Outbound & Inbound Forum organised by the Centre For China and Globalisation

On 16th November, the European Chamber President Mats Harborn attended The 5th Meeting of China Outbound & Inbound Forum organised by the Centre For China and Globalisation (CCG) in Sanya. In a panel discussion on the next forty years of reform and opening, President Harborn called for a new approach, "China's future development will take more than Free Trade Zones (FTZs) and talent schemes. It will take building a regulatory system that broadens and deepens China's business environment by opening up new opportunities for investment and growth." On outbound investment, Mats suggests Chinese companies need to improve communication and transparency to reduce international apprehensions. Regarding inbound investment, he called for higher standards to create demand for new goods and services. Specifically, he referred to energy efficiency standards as a mechanism to push the development of new products like insulation, efficient windows, and smart heating and cooling systems as well as new services to install, service, and inspect to ensure that consumers are in compliance.
