Chamber Representatives Present Position Paper to Wang Xie, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice

European Chamber Vice President and Chairman of the Shanghai Board Carlo D’Andrea led a delegation to meet with Wang Xie, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice and Weifeng Yu, President of the Shanghai Bar Association, and presented European Business in China Position Paper 2018/2019 and the Shanghai Position Paper 2018/2019.

In the meeting, the Chamber representatives introduced the key recommendations outlined in the position papers 2018/2019 regarding the legal services, urging the Chinese government to speed up the opening-up reform in the sector. After giving an overview of the recent developments in Shanghai, DDG Wang also provided updates on the newly introduced policies in this regard including the pilot on partnership law firm between Mainland and Hong Kong or Mainland and Macao, and local firms to employ foreign attorneys. The two sides discussed also the rule of law, across border legal services, as well as the length administrative approval process. Vice President D’Andrea concluded the meeting with a call for establishing regular exchange and strategic cooperation between the Chamber, the Bureau, and the Shanghai Bar Association.
