Members Meet with Quality Supervisory Department of SAMR to Discuss the Product Quality Law

On 10th July, the European Chamber’s Fashion and Leather Desk led a visit to the Department of Supervision and Administration for Product Quality and Safety of State Administration, Market Regulation (SAMR), to exchange views with Sun Huichun, deputy director general (DDG), on the revision of the Product Quality Law (the Law). DDG Sun introduced the background to and current status of the revision work of the Law, before listening to the problems encountered by foreign companies as the Law was implemented.
To address the pain points of companies and make the Law better satisfy the needs and requirements of the evolving market, the delegates gave recommendations on how to revise the Law in two aspects: enhancing regulations on safety-related liabilities of enterprises; and differentiating and clarifying the responsibilities of enterprises in violation of safety (compulsory standards) and non-safety standards (i.e. recommended standards), with commensurate punishment to the infringement being meted out.
Both sides agreed to maintained regular communication and looked forward to potential cooperation with respect to the revision of the Product Quality Law.
