European Chamber Speaks at Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai Committee Event on the 14th Five-Year-Plan

On 12th May, Dr. Ioana Kraft, General Manager of the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter, spoke at a panel discussion on Vision for Future Shanghai organized by the CPPCC Shanghai Committee. The discussion focuses on the planning of the Shanghai's 14th Five-year-plan, in which the city will give even more emphasis, in the course of development, to the "Four Functions", namely the allocation function of global resources, the originator function of science and technology innovation, the leading function of high-end industries and the hub and pivot function of opening-up.

On behalf the European Chamber, Dr. Kraft delivered a speech which provides a list of recommendations to make the city more competitive both nationwide and in the global market. The recommendations include further reforming financial services sector, strengthening intellectual property rights protection, relaxing entry restrictions on foreigners during the COVID-19 outbreak, and piloting innovative reforms in Shanghai Free Trade Zone and Lingang New Area.

Mr. Li Yiping, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee and Mr. Ruan Qing, Deputy Director General of Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, gave remarks and joined the free discussions with representatives from various sectors and industry associations.
