Meeting with NEA : EU-China Energy Technology and Innovation Cooperation vs. Belt and Road Initiative Energy Partnership

In accordance with the Roadmap of China-European Union (EU) Energy Cooperation signed in 2016,  the Joint Statement of China-EU Leaders on Climate Change and Clean Energy signed in 2018, and the Joint Statement on the Implementation of China-EU Energy Cooperation signed in 2019, China and the EU have been cooperating on promoting the energy transition and energy efficiency.

Against the background of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the US-China trade war, the European Chamber believes that the China-EU relationship is more important than ever. Both parties have significant potential and opportunities for cooperation in many energy sectors. Close EU-China cooperation on energy technology innovation may help to tackle challenges, promote green energy and bring benefits for both European and Chinese companies. In addition, European stakeholders and industrial players are also concerned about the plans and prospects of BRI Energy Partnership in the post-epidemic era.

Mr.. Octavian Stamate, Counsellor for Climate Action and Energy, Delegation of the European Union to China, shared the opinions on how to explore opportunities for cooperation in many energy sectors between EU and China.

Vice president of Chamber Charlotte Roule , Chair of Energy WG and representatives of the member companies shared their experience in business practice. The companies ranged from Total, BP, Siemens, ABB and Danfoss.
