Meeting with Tianjin Municipal Government on Green Energy Sourcing

On 08 September 2020, A delegation of the European Chamber Tianjin Chapter led by Chair Cheung Yup Fan had a meeting on green energy sourcing with a delegation of the Tianjin Municipal Government which was formed by officials from Tianjin Development and Reform Commission, Tianjin Industrial and Information Technology Bureau and Tianjin Commerce Bureau. The government delegation was led by Mr. Liu Zhiyong, DDG of Tianjin Commerce Bureau.

The meeting was themed on “50% CO2 reductions by 2030? - An environmental imperative”

The background of this meeting was plenty of Tianjin members have started to set CO2 reduction as a Company TOP priority and promised to be CO2 neutral by 2050 in the context that the EU launched “European Green Deal”in December 2019.   Up to 50% of Tianjin members are manufacturing, many of the large manufacturing members operating in Tianjin have received specific CO2 reduction targets set by their EU headquarters. Like Volkswagen Tianjin plant, their Target is reaching 100% renewable electricity until 2025. Additionally, for SME members, although without Tianjin local CO2 reduction targets at present for most, however, group targets exist for many today are expected to be localized in short term.

-       Overall plan of green energy development in Tianjin

-       Renewable energy (mainly electricity) sourcing for business in Tianjin, especially for manufacturing

-       Issues and concerns to get renewable energy for business in Tianjin, including green certificate purchasing, renewable steam and point-to-point transmission /customized power station and other more topics.
