Webinar: EU-China Experts Exchange on Product Safety and Quality

On 2nd February, the Fashion and Leather Working Desk has organized a webinar for experts from the EU and China to exchange information and experience on product safety control. 

China is revising the Product Quality Law which will affect both domestic and foreign business players in the provision of industrial goods. This webinar gathers experts from Europe and China in the area of product safety control and allowed a full and open exchange and experience sharing among the two sides. Four senior product safety experts from SPEAC (Safe non-food Products in the EU and China) Project made a detailed introduction on the EU approaches on product safety management from multiple aspects including the general legal framework, roles and responsibilities of the EC and the national authorities, the function of EU standards, RAPEX and recall system, inspection and test institutions, conformity assessment; consumer protection organization and so on. Expert Xiao Jiangping from Peking University Centre for Competition Law, who is also the lead person of a research and drafting team for the Product Quality Law put forward his concerns from the enforcement point of view, e.g. divisions between manufacturer and surveillance authorities in product safety, joint liabilities of test bodies in a safety issue, and shared information regarding the revision of the law.


Mutual sides agreed to enhance communication and share knowledge when further needs arise.
