European Chamber South China Chapter Meets Guangdong Department of Commerce to Discuss Future Cooperation

On 16th April, a delegation led by George Lau, European Chamber vice president (VP) and South China Chapter chair, met with Chen Yuehua, deputy director general (DDG) of Guangdong Department of Commerce and other officials to discuss potential cooperation between the two parties in 2021. DDG Chen, when asked about potentially holding the annual China (Guangdong)-Europe Investment and Innovation Cooperation Conference, said the impact of COVID-19 made it difficult to return to pre-pandemic practices. He instead proposed that one investment conference be held this year with the Guangdong Department of Commerce and all chambers of commerce in South China.

Acknowledging the influence of the European Chamber in South China, DDG Chen also suggested a small tailor-made joint event with the Chamber on a topic that members are most interested in, such as new industry clusters, carbon neutrality, the Greater Bay Area, or the 14th Five-year Plan.
