European Chamber Vice President Guido Giacconi delivered speech and received interviews at the Qingdao Multinationals Summit

The second edition of the Qingdao Multinationals Summit was kicked off on 15 July in the eastern coastal hub of Qingdao, Shandong province. It was jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shandong Provincial People's Government. Vice Premier Hu Chunhua made an address to the opening ceremony. Themed ‘Multinationals and China’, the summit offered a platform to declare the country's firm determination to open up further to the outside world, facilitated cooperation between multinationals and China, discussed multinational issues, spreaded the voices and shared the experiences of multinationals, as well as linked resources for multinationals. A series of activities such as closed-door meetings, themed salons, sub-forums, multinational roadshows, city roadshows, project-matchmaking activities, and organizing committee activities took place during the summit.

On 16 July, 2021, European Chamber Vice President Guido Giacconi attended the Qingdao Multinationals Summit and gave a keynote speech in themed forum “Multinationals and New Development Pattern”. Vice President Guido acknowledged the Chinese Government’s achievements in fighting against the COVID-19, mentioned the pandemic still brings unprecedented challenges to business, EU and China should also deepen engagement in other areas where possible, Climate change, biodiversity, international development, WTO reform, international standards setting and alignment on digitalisation remain important topics for EU-China cooperation. He also provided constructive comments and suggestions on how to further improve China’s investment climate.

As a member of the Advisory Committee of the Summit, Vice President Guido also attended a meeting with leaders of the organising committee on the same day. He has received interviews from Shandong TV and China Daily (official website, Twitter, Facebook, Wechat) during the Summit.
