Online Meeting with Beijing Municipal Government Authorities on COVID-19 Issues

On 7th May, the Beijing Development and Reform Commission (BDRC) led a meeting along with Beijing Commerce Bureau (BCU), Beijing Investment and Promotion Centre (BIPC) and two other foreign Chambers of Commerce to discuss the challenges that foreign companies are facing in Beijing during the new wave of COVID-19 situation.

During the meeting, the Head of Government Affairs of the European Chamber demonstrated the result of the newly released flash survey, pointed out that there could be some potential harm to the foreign business with the current COVID-19 prevention policy and the exchange of talents are still a huge problem the foreign businesses are facing in Beijing. There need to be a communication mechanism to be setup or reopen among the Beijing government and the foreign businesses.

Other Chambers and business representatives shared similar concerns and suggestions during the meeting.

The BDRC representatives mentioned that they will support the foreign business to push through this difficult period of time and take into consideration of all the suggestions made by participants. They will try to formulate some guideline that can apply to  enterprises to be more informative and transparent.
