Meeting with Director General of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration

On 11th November the European Chamber in Shanghai met with Mr. Lu Guoqiang, Director General of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration to officially present the European Chamber’s Position Paper with a specific focus on IPR and innovation topics. 

The meeting started with an in-depth review on the numerous reforms related to IP administrations in Shanghai that happened in 2014, their objective and impact for foreign companies’ IP protection in Shanghai. Amongst these reforms: 

- IP Unified Agency in the Shanghai Free trade Zone

- IP Unified Agency for Pudong new Area (before end 2014)

- IP specialised Court for the Shanghai Free Trade Zone

- IP Specialised Court for Shanghai

- Incoming reform of the Patent Law

The chairs of the IPR Working Group introduced the key concerns of the European companies regarding IP that are being raised at the Central Government level, and announced the publication of the standalone Shanghai Position Paper that will address IP topics for Shanghai specifically. SIPA then briefly introduced their next Shanghai IP Forum scheduled for the 8th of December. 

The meeting allowed to set up the basis of reinforced cooperation and regular dialogue between SIPA and the European Chamber for the year to come, reaffirming the importance of the privileged position of the Chamber to be the interface for EU Companies and SIPA.
