Meeting with Chen Jing, President of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC)

On 26th April, the European Chamber’s President Jörg Wuttke, Vice President and Shanghai Chair Bettina Schön, Pharmaceutical Working Group Chair Raphael de Garnier des Garets, and Shanghai Chapter General Manager Steven Basart met with the President of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC), Chen Jing.

Jörg thanked the Shanghai Friendship Association for their support of European Chamber member companies last year. He introduced the China Position Paper 2022/2023 highlighting the recommendations from European businesses in order to further expand and develop in the Chinese market. He emphasised that there is still room for development in the scale of imports and exports between the EU and China, and EU businesses should continue increasing their investment in China, with increased policy support for businesses in China. In the meeting, Bettina also presented the Shanghai Position Paper 2023/2024 to Chen Jing.

Chen Jing expressed appreciation for the active role played by the European Chamber in promoting cooperation between China and EU. He said that China's reform and opening up efforts will continue, and many foreign enterprises have undertaken rapid development in the Chinese market and are continuously increasing investment. Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries is willing to provide further support on specific problems faced by EU enterprises, enhance exchanges with the European Chamber to jointly build cooperation platforms and mechanisms, and promote economic and trade development and exchanges.
