Meeting with Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission Director General

On 10th August, Klaus Zenkel, vice president (VP) of the European Chamber and chair of the South China Chapter, led a delegation to meet with Ms Guo Ziping, director general of the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission. The delegation included Christian Gassner, board member of the South China Chapter, Ms Zhou Fang, chair of the Human Resources Working Group in South China, and Ms Yang Kun, chair of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Forum in South China, together with representatives of several Shenzhen-based member companies.

VP Zenkel shared the key South China findings from the European Chamber's Business Confidence Survey 2023, particularly in the context of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) development. He also highlighted the importance of GBA individual income tax (IIT) preferential policies' implementation in Shenzhen. The member companies’ representatives then introduced their respective business developments and issues. Notable among these concerns were apprehensions surrounding the impact of the United States’ de-risking policy towards China, difficulties faced by foreigners in integrating into China’s credit system, financial resources, and access to online payments and English information regarding preferential policies.

Director General Guo expressed gratitude for the suggestions shared by the Chamber delegation. She reiterated Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission's commitment to support foreign businesses and emphasized the importance of continuous working mechanism to ensure effective communication between government and business community. The 3 hours meeting fostered valuable dialogue between the European business and the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission, addressing key issues and main suggestions for Shenzhen's business environment.
