2023-09-24 | Beijing

The "2023 Medical Device Economic Information Conference," hosted by the Southern Medical and Pharmaceutical Economic Research Institute of the National Medical Products Administration, focused on the theme of "Building a Strong Nation through Intelligent Manufacturing, Focusing on 'Devices' and 'Equipment,' Uniting for a Healthy Future."

COCIR China representative Jessica Yuan, along with the COCIR China vice-chair and other members, participated in two exclusive closed-door meetings.

In Closed-Door Meeting 1, held on 24 October 2023, experts discussed challenges and opportunities in globalizing medical device enterprises. They explored product innovation, compliant operations, and market strategies. The conversation also touched on targeted regions, challenges faced, and proposed solutions. Experts suggested opening up the business environment, improving investment climate, and enhancing coordination between regulatory policies and industrial development. Recommendations focused on promoting China's medical device regulations and building mutual recognition.

During the meeting, Jessica emphasised three key points: (1) the importance of promoting communication and collaboration with the relevant departments of Joint Reformation for Public Health Services, Medical Insurance, and Medical Production-Circulation (JRPMM) (三医联动), (2) acknowledging the complexities of international regulatory mutual recognition influenced by various factors, with COCIR committed to supporting NMPA's specific efforts to advance in this area, and (3) advocating for increased opportunities for the healthcare industry to participate in drafting the future Medical Device Management Law.

Closed-Door Meeting 2 was held the next day (25 October) and can be found in a separate advocacy report.
