Participation in the CPPCC Shanghai Annual Briefing

On 22nd November, by invitation of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the European Chamber participated in a briefing on the CPPCC Shanghai Committee 2023. 

Mr Hu Wenrong, the chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, provided an overview of Shanghai’s economic performance in 2023 and its progress regarding China’s opening-up and reform. Then, vice-chairman Mr Xiao Guiyu briefed the attendees on the accomplishments of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee this year. 

During the exchange session, Mr Carlo Diego D’Andrea, chairman of the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter, raised issues including talent exchange and attraction, intellectual property right (IPR), research and development (R&D) and cross-data transfer, as well as providing recommendations that are conducive to the construction of Shanghai’s ‘Five Centres’ and its high-quality development. 

After the meeting, the European Chamber presented the Position Paper 2023/2024 to the CPPCC, along with document containing comments from the European Chamber’s Working Groups’ specific to Shanghai city.
