South China Board Vice Chairman Participating in 2024 Guangdong Investment Promotion Agencies and Organizations Networking

On February 28th, 2024, Mr Fabian Blake, Vice Chairman of the European Chamber South China Chapter, was invited by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province to speak at the 2024 Guangdong Investment Promotion Agencies and Organizations Networking event.

During his address, Mr Fabian Blake highlighted several critical points, including concerns about the potential uncertainties that the new company law may introduce for foreign-invested companies operating in China. He also addressed the challenges posed by recent changes in Individual Income Tax (IIT) regulations, which have led to disappointment among qualified foreign talents in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Additionally, Mr Blake advocated for greater convenience in payment methods, particularly e-payment, for foreigners, as well as for more visa-free regulations and streamlined application processes for business travellers from other EU countries.

In addition, Mr Blake underscored the importance of tangible government support for European SMEs looking to establish and grow their presence in the GBA. He suggested initiatives such as dedicated SME support programs, incentives for innovation and investment, and enhanced networking opportunities to connect European SMEs with local partners and markets. By addressing these concerns and providing robust support, Blake argued that the government could create a more conducive environment for European SMEs, fostering economic growth and strengthening international business relations.
