Participation in the Shanghai Vice Mayor Roundtable on Cross-border Data Transfer (CBDT)

On 13th June, Mr Hua Yuan, Vice Mayor of the Shanghai Municipal Government, hosted a roundtable with foreign chambers and companies to discuss the facilitation of cross-border data transfer (CBDT).

The European Chamber, along with other chambers, attended the meeting. During the meeting, Mr Steven Basart, European Chamber Shanghai Chapter General Manager, raised the key CBDT-related challenges facing European companies and provided relevant recommendations. The European Chamber will continue to work closely with the Shanghai government to optimise data regulations providing our expertise and comments.

European Chamber’s member representatives from various working groups, including auto components, cybersecurity, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals, attended the meeting.

Leaders from the Municipal Cyberspace Administration, Municipal Securities Regulatory Bureau, Pudong New Area and Lingang Special Area attended the meeting. Relevant officials provided interpretation on the newly released CBDT regulations, briefed on the CBDT-related progress in their respective areas, and responded to companies’ questions.

Vice Mayor Hua Yuan stressed the importance of strengthening communication with foreign chambers and enterprises to shape the CBDT regulations to better serve businesses.
