Minutes:
In response to a suggestion originally made by the Chinese to create an Innovation Platform, DGRTD is now exploring such a concept.
Key elements include: it should replace/last longer that the existing 3-4month contract programs; it could be a govt-to-govt initiative, or more likely, a stand-alone EU initiative
Examples of similar successful programs includeSwissnext and Germany’s Innovation Houses.
The platform could partner with EUPIC ;offer a variety of services (some paid for); and could also house existing innovation projects under one roof
AD recommended a broader public consultation and expressed willingness to communicate a concept note to key EUCCC members in order to get feedback.
AD also recommended that such a program have a regulatory focus and that it is well coordinate with other DGs given its wide scope and the existence of related exiting programs (IP Key, IPR SME HD, EC2 etc)to it as well.
An afternoon meeting with Deputy DG Strohmeier also took place (BF joined as well). This meeting covered the above, the R&D PP including visas, and urbanization issues, but was mostly focused on the macro-economy and political economy of China
