Into the Whole-Process People's Democracy Practice Station of the CPPCC Committees in Shanghai

On 22nd August, the European Chamber was invited to participate in “Into the Whole-Process People's Democracy Practice Station of the CPPCC Committees in Shanghai”, organised by the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai Committee.

Chamber Shanghai Chapter Board Member Roberto Donà attended the event and raised questions regarding CPPCC's role in promoting economic growth and how foreign-invested companies can better leverage this platform. Ioana KRAFT, Vice Chair of the Investment Working Group, also joined the event and had an exchange with Yu Lijuan, Vice Chairwoman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, during the tea break on living experience for foreign people in Changning District.

In response to Roberto’s questions, Ji Zhaoliang, Chairman of the CPPCC Pudong New Area Committee, acknowledged the European Chamber’s active engagement with the CPPCC Shanghai, as well as the Chamber’s longstanding support and significant contributions to the economic development of the Pudong New Area by providing suggestions and recommendations on behalf of European businesses. He also mentioned that the CPPCC aims to establish a group of foreign observers for the Whole-Process People's Democracy Practice and that Pudong New Area is working on a new programme to better support the development of international economic organisations in Shanghai.

Yu Lijuan, Vice Chairwoman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Other foreign attendees include foreign Consular officials in Shanghai, representatives of sister cities, and representatives of Magnolia Prize Winners.
