European Chamber spoke at the 2024 World Philanthropy Forum

On September 6th, Gianni Di Giovanni, States’ Representative of the European Chamber, spoke at the 2024 World Philanthropy Forum as the keynote speaker. Other participants include Zhu Yongxin, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, representatives of the Chinese government agencies, universities and foreign business chambers.

In his speech, Di Giovanni emphasised the crucial role of ESG and CSR initiatives in modern business strategy and stressed the unique opportunity for European businesses to lead by example in China, addressing environmental challenges while fostering economic growth.

He then introduced the European Chamber's various initiatives to promote ESG and CSR principles among its member companies:

  • The Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) and the CSR Awards, now in their 8th and 11th years respectively, recognise excellence in sustainable business practices of members.
  • The Carbon Neutrality Action (CNA), launched in May 2022, facilitates coordinated efforts among members and provide a platform to support China's 2060 carbon neutrality goals and promote green transitions.

In his speech, Di Giovanni also emphasised the importance of leveraging technology for sustainability, encouraging European businesses to invest in research and development to address environmental and social challenges. He also highlighted the need for collaboration with local partners, governments, and communities to advance the ESG and CSR agenda.
