The 3rd China-Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum Successfully Held in Guangzhou
On 27th–28th August 2024, the Third China-Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum, jointly co-organised by the European Chamber, China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute and China Southern Power Grid, was successfully held in Guangzhou. The forum, themed "Innovating Together for Shared Future – Promoting Mutually Beneficial Cooperation on Energy Technologies Between China and Europe," gathered representatives from energy authorities, embassies and consulates, industry players, research institutes and financial institutions from China and Europe. They engaged in discussions and shared insights on innovative practices in new types of power systems, hydrogen energy, smart energy, energy storage and wind power. The forum attracted 400 attendees on-site and 550,000 online.

On 23rd August, the Energy Working Group submitted comments on the Regulations on Safety Protection of Power Monitoring Systems (Draft for Comments) to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
It is suggested to refine the definitions of power monitoring systems to include predictive maintenance and lifecycle management. It is recommended that more detailed guidance on network optimisation within safety partitions and called for clarification on the use of "dedicated" networks in production control areas. Additionally, it is suggested to make changes to ensure the safe integration of new technologies and emphasise the need for clear definitions and standards for safety measures, particularly regarding supply chain security and risk management.
Exclusive Meeting with Mr HE Shaojun, Deputy Special Commissioner to Shanghai, Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM)
On 21st August, the European Chamber hosted a meeting with Mr He Shaojun, Deputy Special Commissioner to Shanghai, Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) .
Chamber Vice President and Shanghai Chapter Chair Carlo D’Andrea, alongside Vice President Bruno Weill, AC members, and Working Group Chairs from auto components, environment, energy, and IPR sectors, discussed issues including financial opening, automotive aftermarket, sustainability, green development, IPR, CCUS, and access to green power.
Roundtable with Shanghai Vice Mayor Hua Yuan on Equipment Renewal
On 7th August, the European Chamber, along with other chambers of commerce and businesses, was invited to participate in a roundtable on large-scale equipment renewal and consumer goods trade-in, organised by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
Hua Yuan, vice mayor of Shanghai, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Chamber Vice President and Shanghai Chapter Chair Carlo D’Andrea attended the roundtable, along with 10 members—including four Advisory Council members and six working group chairs—from various sectors including auto-components, energy, environment, investment, legal, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
European Chamber Representatives Meet Jiang Zhaoli, Deputy DG of Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE)
On 23rd July, a European Chamber delegation led by Xu Zhonghua, chair of the Carbon Market Working Group; June Zhang, chair of the Standards & Conformity Assessment Working Group; and Sarah Yu, vice chair of the Environment Working Group, met with Jiang Zhaoli, deputy director general of the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), to discuss the Implementation Plan for Establishing a Carbon Footprint Management System.
