Business Confidence Survey Launch in Shanghai

The Business Confidence Survey 2014 was launched on 29 May. More than 90 attendees from consulates, member companies and media joined the launch at The Westin Bund Center Shanghai. Vice-President and Shanghai Chairman Stefan Sack and Christian Neuner, Principal, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, presented the survey methodology and results, followed by an extensive Q&A session with the audience.

According to the results of the survey, business conditions in China are getting tougher and a new sober reality is developing. This is exemplified by an entrenched sense of pessimism within the European business community, as persistent market challenges show little sign of abating. In turn, many firms are setting more modest expectations for revenue and profitability growth and are scaling back their investment plans for the Chinese marketplace. However, implementation of meaningful reforms–in particular increased market access–would likely prompt a reversal of this trend.
