A Successful Welcome in Nanjing for Ms. Marjut Hannonen, Newly Appointed Minister-Counsellor, Head of Trade at the EU Delegation to China

On July 20, the Nanjing Chapter was honored to host a meeting with Ms. Marjut Hannonen, the newly appointed Minister-Counsellor, Head of Trade at the EU Delegation to China. Over coffee and afternoon refreshments, cross-industry Chinese and European representatives gathered to hear Ms. Hannonen speak on EU-China trade relations, current trends in the global economy, and the impact of trade policy on European business in China. Following Ms. Hannonen’s keynote speech, attendees were invited to take part in an enlightening Q&A session.

The program opened with introductory remarks by Mr. Frank Redecker, Board member of European Chamber Nanjing Chapter. Mr. Redecker discussed trends in EU-China trade relations and highlighted the European Chamber’s successful history of business advocacy and problem-solving in Nanjing. Referring to the Nanjing Position Paper 2023/2024, Mr. Redecker commended the Jiangsu government for not only acknowledging the voices of European Chamber members, but also for recognizing the importance of the European business community’s proposals for creating a cooperative trade environment in Jiangsu.

In her keynote speech, Ms. Marjut Hannonen shared her valuable perspective on current trends in EU-China business relations. As the trade climate is challenging in the wake of the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Ms. Hannonen presented the EU strategy and the state of EU-China cooperation on economic and trade topics.

A sincere thank you from the European Chamber Nanjing Chapter to Ms. Hannonen and the EU Commission, to Mr. Frank Redecker, and to all of our guests. We look forward to welcoming Ms. Hannonen to Nanjing again in the future!
